Library Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
Checkout Procedures
Students go to the library once a week on a scheduled basis. This scheduled period is the primary time students should check out their books.
Students should always use a red place marker when they take a book off the shelf in order to return it to its correct spot. When checking out books, students must present their library card.
Borrowing Limitations
Kindergarteners and first grade students may check out one book.
Students in grades 2-5 may check out two books at a time.
Returning Books
Students should bring books to school on the day they have library or they may keep them at school or in their book bags. All books should be placed in the designated area on library day.
Renewals
Students wishing to renew a book should notify the librarian at time of return.
Overdue Books
Books are overdue if not returned or renewed within two weeks of checkout. Students will not be allowed to check out additional books with overdue books in the system. Some of the proceeds collected from overdue and lost or damaged books is used to fund classroom libraries.
Lost or Damaged Books
Lost or damaged books must be replaced. A notice will be sent to the student showing which book is missing and the cost for its replacement. Payment should be submitted to Keri Murdock in the school office, or a replacement of the same book, in hardback, may be purchased from a bookstore and used as its replacement. If the student chooses to make a payment, the student will be charged the replacement cost of the book. Lost or damaged books must be paid for before students can check out additional books.

Library Volunteers
Parents can help in the library by providing reading enrichment experiences, shelving books, reading and straightening shelves, or helping put up library displays. For more information about volunteering in the LMC, send an email to Keri Murdock.
Support Northwood's Scholastic Book Fair by helping to set up, tear down and assist students with their selections and purchases. Proceeds from the book and items purchased from the book fair allow us to continue to update the reading collection in the library so your child is interested in the reading materials we have to offer. Book Fairs are held once per school year, however Scholastic purchases can be made throughout the school year. Order forms are sent home regularly.
If you'd like to use your creativity, you can make bookmarks promoting monthly themes, holidays, special events and especially the love of reading. Drop them off at the Library Media Center for distribution to the children when they check out books. (No business advertisements, please.)
Napa City-County Library
The TumbleBook Library, provided by the Napa City-County Library, is a collection of free interactive animated talking storybooks for children. Children can chose to read the text or have the stories read to them. Some books feature "Word Help" to assist children in sounding out words. There are also book-related puzzles and games to play. Stories are available in English, Spanish, French and Chinese.
