50th Anniversary Open House Tonight

Wednesday, May 16th, Northwood will be hosting its 50th anniversary Open House 5:30-7:30pm. The event will begin in the Multi-Use room where families will get to see all the wonderful 50th anniversary projects. Visit rooms 17 and 18 to view Science Fair projects. Be sure to swing by the library for Northwood's annual Book Fair. Before you go, stop by your child's classroom between 6-7pm.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed!

We are in need of volunteers to help with the book fair. We really need 3-4 volunteers per day to make this fair successful. So far I have 2 volunteers on Monday and 1 on Thursday, so that leaves many slots to fill.

The times needed are: Mon 5/14, Tue 5/15, & Thur 5/17 2:30-3:30 and Wed. 5/16 12:45-1:45.

The book fair will actually be open more hours, but these are the times that I think I will need the most volunteers. Parents can sign up in the office or contact me via email at sfaulk@nvusd.k12.ca.us to volunteer. I am also open to middle school/high school helpers and/or grandparents too! Just think of all the great opportunities there are to support our kids and our school! And remember "Many hands make light work".

FREE Airplane Rides for Kids!

Young people ages 8-17 will have a chance to take to the skies on May 5th, as Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter #167 hosts a Young Eagles Flight Rally at the Napa County Airport. This program offers free airplane rides with license, insured pilots from local EAA Chapters.

Subject to favorable conditions
FREE!

Required parental permission forms available in advance at Napa Valley Hot Tubs (2746 Jefferson St.) or the airport gift shop. Forms will also be available at the Young Eagles' booth on the day of the event.

Chairperson Needed - 5th Grade Graduation

Northwood is in need of a chairperson for the 5th grade promotion/graduation night scheduled the evening of June 1st. Fun activities for the kids need to be coordinated--movie, games, pizza, snacks, etc. Please contact Susan Mitchell if you are willing to volunteer your time to give the graduating 5th graders a night to remember. Monday, April 30th: Starbucks Coffee and Donuts in room 10. (Set up by 7:45AM.)

Tuesday, May 1: Bring a flower for your teacher (the teachers will have a vase in their rooms and hopefully have a beautiful bouquet)

Wednesday, May 2: Teacher Luncheon in room 10. (Set up and ready by 11:30AM.) Donation ideas: salads, cheese trays, side dishes, fruit trays, and of course plenty of desserts!

Thursday, May 3: Write and bring a thank you note to your teacher.

Friday, May 4: Teacher Breakfast room 10 (Muffins, Crouissants, Fresh fruit, quiche, juice, etc)

Carnival Punch Cards on Sale

Northwood's annual carnival is schedule for Friday, May 11, 2012 at 3pm. This year's theme is "fiesta." As always, there will be games booths, prizes and delicious food. Some of our old favorites will be back for another year including the dunk tank and cake walk. The Club de los Padres is chairing the event.

Reminder: Clear Your Child's Absences!

Parents/guardians must explain the reason for an absence with 5 days. An absence not excused with the time limit as a "truancy." There are 5 easy ways to clear an absence:

Call the office anytime 253-3471
Go to our "Report an Absence" webpage
Use the free Northwood cell phone app
Send a note to school with your child
Stop by the office in person
Send an email to the Northwood's secretary, Mrs. Lockhart

It's just that easy!
