Today was our annual Field Day. The children had a blast! There were many activities available for children to test their skills. Northwood's Science Fair is open to all students in all grades. Show off your knowledge of science by presenting a project on May 14th. You can work on your own or with up to four friends. Once you get your idea for a project, go to the office to sign-up. March 25th is the deadline for signing up. The science fair committee must approve your idea before you begin. The children at Northwood not only did a fabulous job reading lots of books for the Hooked on Books Read-a-Thon, but they also exceeded the 375,000 minutes goal!!! A total of 379,921 minutes were read by our students, and over $10,000 were raised in pledges! Mr. Neidhoefer said he would kiss a fish if the children met or exceeded the goal of 375,000 minutes. Well, that's just what he did! He puckered up and kissed a very smelly, ugly fish! Yuck!

Benefit Concert for Haiti

On Saturday, February the 20th there will be a benefit concert in Yountville for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. This is a great opportunity as a community to come together and show our support for the victims and their families during such tragic times. The concert is being put on by a dedicated group of local high school students under an organization they created called Hope for Haiti. 100% of the profits generated at the event will go straight to the American Red Cross.

2nd Annual Spelling Bee

On January 28th, Northwood's 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students competed in our 2nd annual spelling bee, which is a part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition. The first round of the competition began in the classrooms. Then the four best spellers in each of the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades were selected to compete in the Northwood's 2nd annual spelling bee.

Get "Hooked on Books" at Northwood!

Northwood gets hooked on books during the month of February! On Friday, reading log packets went home with the students to be used for logging minutes read. Each week, students will return their reading log sheets to collect the "minutes read" prizes.

What counts as minutes read? Reading books, homework, magazines, newspapers, comics. It includes children reading to others and others reading to the children.

A massive, 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti near the capital of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12th. The damage to buildings is extensive and the number of injured or dead is astounding. They need our help!

Kindergarten Registration

Come join the fun at the Napa Main Library! Elementary school age readers are invited to read to a certified listening dog. The dogs are great listeners and provide an inviting environment for children to practice their reading skills. Children sign up for a 15 minute session when they arrive at the library.
