About NES Enrichment Programs Northwood Elementary School offers its students learning opportunities beyond their required class work geared towards meeting the California State minimum guidelines. The Northwood community believes in a well rounded education. We strive to provide additional activities and classes that have been eliminated throughout the years due to budget cuts and the current economic climate. |

Creative Collaboration The Creative Collaborative Team was started by the PFC to provide challenging and enriching programs for our students. Since creation in 2009 we have started book clubs for our higher level readers in multiple grades that parent and faculty have facitilitated. We have also started an annual Scripps Spelling Bee and this year added a Geography Bee which included an 8 week geography study group for 4th and 5th graders. We are hoping to add a science related program in the near future. We are very excited to provide enriching opportunities for all students to get them excited and challenged in their learning environment. Committee chairpeople: Pia Mooney and Laura Christian.
English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) The English Learner Advisory Committee is a group of parents who share an interest in helping our second-language learners succeed at Northwood Elementary School. This year we are offering monthly educational parent meetings for our Spanish speaking families. MALDEF (Mexican Defense and Educational Fund) partnering with The Queen of the Valley Hospital are conducting these monthly meetings. There are a broad range of topics being offered, all focus on how to help students be successful at school. These classes are offered in Spanish with English translation available.
